Rihanna’s Music Video: The video that changed Pop Music forever. Well at least for now.

The Cold Cut definitely beat me to the punch!

So, Rihanna has really changed. There is obviously much more to this Barbadian teen that we first thought.

‘Disturbia’ is a departure for Rihanna- it’s not as chart-safe as her previous output, and with the exception of ‘Umbrella’, arguably superior. The video has been long in the making- ever since I heard the opening line ‘What’s wrong with me? Why do I feel like this?’, we’ve known that something was up.

Rihanna has changed. Something, I am sure, she (or her amazing team of music whiz’) has been cookin’ up for quite a while. Since the release of the wonderfully ubiquitous “Umbrella” Rihanna has been out to do two things: dominate the world’s music charts; check, and to change pop music for the better; double check. “Umbrella” had a defined timelessness twang to it — great songwriting and a sound that appealed to almost everyone. After the super-massive critical and commercial success of “Umbrella,” she did what any pop princess is expected to do — release a menagerie of delectable and historically important singles like… “Don’t Stop The Music” and “Shut Up and Drive”. Superstar status achieved.

What I am loving is that girlfriend isn’t playing it safe AT ALL. She is collaborating with not so “chart-safe” artists like Maroon 5 and Elephant Man, and she’s releasing increasingly experimental songs like “Disturbia”. What does this all mean? It means the pop revolution of the decade has arrived.

Pop Music Revolution Timeline:

1988-90 – The New Kids on the Block

1997-99 – Backstreet Boys, *N’Sync, Britney Spears

2008-??? – RIHANNA

That’s right folks. Its not the Jonas Brothers, not Miley Cyrus… but Rihanna.
