She & Him – I Put a Spell on You (Screamin’ Jay Hawkins cover)
I’ve got to admit that when I heard that M Ward and that chick from Elf were hooking up to give birth to indie-pop outfit She & Him, I think I died a little inside. Then I heard She & Him’s Volume One. Try and find a better beach, summer-fun album in 2008. You just couldn’t. Zooey Deschanel has since become one of my favorite people — she’s adorable. Her songs are always endearing, always sad, and always hooky; and not a single artless moment is found in M Ward’s clever musical arrangements.
She & Him recently took part in that Sweethearts 09 Valentine’s Day compilation I keep pimping out. I do so for a reason, folks — the compilation is f*****g brilliant! Just drop by your local Starbucks (I know you were just there this morning!) and drop the $12.95 for this thing. Zooey Deschanel did a moving, almost-A capella rendition of the Screamin’ Jay Hawkins classic — “I Put a Spell on You” which you should listen to below:

Bat for Lashes – Glass
There is something about Bat For Lashes that I really like. It’s that something about her that makes me want to watch Donnie Darko. Bat For Lashes’ 2007 debut, Fur & Gold, displayed a talent that was impossible to ignore. This new song, “Glass,” straight from her upcoming sophomore effort, Two Sons, follows in its predecessors footsteps. “Glass” already begins to weave the fantastic tales that made Fur & Gold a sensation, blending electronics with the organic sounds of drums and shakers. This really sets the bar up pretty high for the forthcoming album — but I don’t doubt Natasha Khan’s ability to meet these standards.

I love Zooey Deschanel so much!
These songs are so good. I definitely liked Bat For Lashes’ song better though. The musical arrangements are incredible.
danks/yo
I love Zooey too, so much… Went to see Yes Man! with Jim Carrey and Deschannel, she is part of a fictional group called the Munchausen By Proxy, and four of their songs are in the soundtrack, they’re just funny… I liked the movie, is pretty much any Jim Carrey movie, but with Zooey in it, the chemistry between them is brilliant I think… Anyway, here’s some info on the soundtrack, not that it’d be hard to google or anything, but, anyways, enjoy… http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/node/147621

Good Sir,
The links from this post & the Lily Allen post are circular between Hype Machine & your site. Is there a way to download the songs?
Any help appreciated.
Those songs are only posted for streaming purposes now. I’m not allowed to give those away — sorry.
Luis, did you ever hear the new M. Ward track featuring Zooey? It’s pretty solid — low on her, unfortunately, but definitely worth a couple of spins.
