Sleigh Bells is the loud, creative forced brought to life by Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss. Derek played in a hardcore band, and Alexis well, she was a, uh… school teacher who played in a pop group in her teenage years. With a winning combination like that, you’re bound to to make some noise. Sleigh Bells are, by most accounts, a new band with a fresh take on pop music, and their EP really hits it out of the park.
They demanded everyone’s attention at this year’s CMJ with their loud and undeniably enjoyable set. Sleigh Bell’s EP/introduction to the world, the Magic Metal CDR sounds like what Discovery’s album would sound like if they pumped the volume up to max.
Sleigh Bells’ defining moment, and my favorite song of theirs so far, “Crown On The Ground” is the perfect mix of Beyonce’s “Upgrade U” and Wavves’ “So Bored“.

Sleigh Bells have also released a new track not found on their Magic Metal CDR. It’s called “Infinity Guitars” and it easily become my second favorite Sleigh Bells track.

lol im loving it, got past the distortion. ring ring is ‘pretty much amazing’ ha xx
Have been listening to these guys for a while and can’t help but feel the songs would be better without the massive distortion. It only really works well with Infinity Guitars, with the other tracks Ifind it quite annoying pretty quickly.
i loved these two the first time i heard “crown on the ground.”
i’ve read a bunch about the magic metal cdr, but never managed to find a full track listing. is it only these 4/5 songs? if not, where can i get the rest?
I think it’s just the tracks posted above (minus “Infinity Guitars” – that one isn’t on it)
awesome. thanks.
is it my speakers, or is that heavy distortion meant to be there?
haha, yes it’s meant to be there.
fuck yes
Don’t know about you guys, but “Crown on the Ground” makes me want to get all kinds of fucked up.
This kinda sounds like a drunk version of Discovery, but with less awesome electronic jizzims.
BTW, I’d say this is more Solange/Amerie meets Japandroids.
They kind of hurt my ears at first, but after 2 or 3 songs, they just go numb. Not bad at all, but not that great.
I’m not sure I should be listening to music described as a cross between Beyonce and WAVVES. The universe just can’t handle it.
Thank photo is awesome, first of all.
Secondly, these tunes are even better. Thanks for the mp3s and for introducing me to them.
Read about these guys in the New York Times today.
I really like it.
