The blipster of the Knowles family and Queen B’s little sister Solange took the time to cover one of my favorite songs of the year, and I’ll love her eternally for it. Her “Stillness Is The Move” cover is built one of the most recognizable Dr. Dre samples out there (yes, that funky, ear-bending “XXplosive” twang).
Major props to Pitchfork for finally dropping this one. I’ve been dying to hear it ever since Solange tweeted about it back in July! Listen and download to the cover after the jump.
Solange – Stillness Is The Move (Dirty Projectors Cover)
“Stillness” sounds pretty great as a chill, throwback R&B track, but I do miss the bouncy percussion.

Great song! BIG UP Solange!
This is so good. I love this song
“The blipster of the Knowles family ” LOL!
She’s my favorite of the Knowles family. Obviously.
nice. love her look.
I liked it, but thought it could’ve used more polish. And like you said, more percussion. The sample was overdone, I thought too. And on some other sites, people said it reminded them of “Bag Lady” from Erykah Badu who use the same sample Dre used.
I mean, the original track is full of bombast. The best part of it, is the pipes. But she’s dead on it’s an R&B track in disguise…so I hope she spitshines it and releases it as a single.
It sounds like they took the exact same sample and slowed it down a little. Far from being original.
I’ve already heard Solange over the XXplosive sample much much earlier in the year, on the Green Lantern remix of “F*** the Industry (feat. Wale)”.
May not be official, but still goooood:

My bad, that actually came out *last* year.
She’s amazing. That’s all I have to say.
this is a great cover, i really enjoyed it.
but, am i the only one who feels that solange is no blipster? don’t get me wrong, i hate categories & all– i just feel like solange had no choice but to go in the indie/alt/soul direction. her sister is beyonce, “shallow pop r&b dive” & she can’t be that, so she has to be
this blipster.
i think she shouldnt try so hard.
regardless of all of this, i really enjoyed her cover:)
I totally have to agree with you.
I also think people like Solange merely because she’s a TINY BIT indie/alt/soul and totally different from her sister Beyonce.
It’s a double-edged sword really.
