Some Remixes on a Sunday #2

Continuing this from last Sunday.

Listen up. I’ve got a whole lotta new shizz for you and your granny. No, I really do. I’m just completely swamped. If I had a bit more time this week, almost every single one of these remixes would have seen its own post. But, alas, life doesn’t work out that way. Maybe some of you can help me?

Beyond normal life stuff, I have been pretty busy watching movies. Award season is upon us and I am still severely behind. While most of the theaters around here are playing what I want to see, I am having scheduling issues. My big priorities this week are: Rachel Getting Married, The Wrestler, and Gran Torino. I say that in confidence because I already wasted this weekend watching some pretty shitty guilty pleasure movies.

Yes. I watched Bride Wars and The Unborn this weekend, instead of catching up on films I know I would enjoy. Bride Wars wasn’t too bad — I didn’t expect much in the first place, but The Unborn was just insulting. Hopefully now I’ve had my fill of cheap Hollywood escapism. I need to focus on cheap-yet-affluent escapist movies now. But before I throw away $100 this week in movies (and movie-related expenses), have any of you seen Rachel Getting Married, The Wrestler, or Gran Torino? Are either of those films that I may not need to watch at the theater? Would the comfort of my own home suffice? Can you point me in the right direction of the torrent?

Damn, and I still have to watch The Reader, I’ve Loved You So Long, Frost/Nixon, Defiance, Che, and Good.

Now, my mom raised me right. I won’t ask for something without giving you another something in return. Here are 10 Remixes. But before you listen… isn’t that a cool pic up there?

Kings Of Leon – Use Somebody (Dolby Anol Remix)

I’m not going to comment on every remix, but this first one is just splendid. I can’t begin to tell you how much I like this one. Great use of this particularly great KOL track.

Justice – Planisphere (Religion Remix)

Beyoncé – Single Ladies (Siik Remix)

Beck – Gamma Ray (James Pants Remix)

Midfield General – Disco Sirens (Blacklight Flashlight Remix)

Beyoncé – Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) (Dolby Anol Edit)

Coldplay – Viva La Vida (DiscoTech Remix)

The Rolling Stones – Satisfaction (DiscoTech Remix)

M.I.A. – Hombre (Muscle Remix)

Justice vs Simian – We Are Your Friends (Scottie B, King Tutt, Samir Remix)

You definitely need to watch those three in the movie theater. I dont know about those other movies (“The Reader, I’ve Loved You So Long, Frost/Nixon, Defiance, Che, and Good.”) Except maybe Frost/Nixon, that one looks intense!

Rachel Getting Married was fantastic. Definitely worth a trip to the theater. I’m waiting until the Oscar noms are announced – for the last few years AMC theaters have done a ‘Best Picture Day’, where they show all 5 films nominated for 30 bucks or something.

Rachel Getting Married, The Wrestler and Gran Torino are must sees. I’ve Loved You So Long you can wait for dvd. Kristin Scott Thomas is amazing in it, but as a movie it’s not that great. Skip Defiance, Che and Good. And I loved The Reader more than I expected, really, and liked Frost/Nixon very much. Love your website!

Are you authorized to post those Discotech remixes on your blog? You know, a lot of dedicated DJs have to pay money to get those tracks from sites like crooklyn clan. It’sn not fair for WORKING DJs who actually spend money on music, edits, remixes..etc for you to just put stuff out there so that some indie-blog-DJ kid can get it and play it at their next loft party.

Hey L, Gran Torino – nice movie, but since it is basically about this old dude who hates everyone (great actor btw) makes it *much* better for a home viewing, since it being so mellow. The wrestler is a bit tricky but if you are a fan of wrestling its a definite must see in theaters but if you’re not, grab the remote. I also saw Defiance (Daniel Craig) last week in Theaters and it was a brilliant movie you won’t regret it. Best ‘true story’ movie I’ve seen in a while. Haven’t seen the others either but I plan on watching Che soon. Cool Choices btw.

The Coldplay mix was actually released right around the time it hit #1 on billboard. We just decided to send it out to some blogs recently to let more people have it.

But yeah, these are authorized….however there is plenty of other stuff you can only get here: http://www.crooklynclan.net/discotech

thanks for listening

Just saw The Wrestler tonight, that was very good, although it was so violent & bloody, that I was kinda wishing I had seen it on dvd.
Benjamin Button is spectacular, prob should be seen on the big screen. Milk was even better, but isnt a sweeping drama requiring a big screen like Benjamin Button.
I really wanna see Che, but I have no clue where I can find that one showing.
I would like to see Gran Torino, but have so many films that are priorities to see before that one.
One that is already on dvd that I highly recommend is In Bruges. That is one of my fav films of the last few years.
