The first single to be released from Spoon’s forthcoming LP, Transference, will be “Written In Reverse” (not “The Mystery Zone“), if you don’t already count “Got Nuffin” as a single.
Transference is out January 19th on Merge, but you can expect a 7″ slab of wax featuring “Written In Reverse” on January 5th. The single will be backed with the exclusive b-side “Mean Red Spider”.
We have yet to hear “Written In Reverse” in its full mp3 glory, but we do have this live track from this year’s Pitchfork festival:

Spoon didn’t play at p4k this year. Trust me, I would definitely have known if they had played!
yeah, I don’t think they performed in 2009.
Nice! The quality of that live rip is great. I can only imagine the awesome keys they’re going to add to it on the single version.
I know this is out of pocket, but this hella young kid by the moniker of T-RO did some messing around on GrageBand (of all things!) and came up with something like this:

someone to keep an eye on if you’re interested.
