We fell in love with Australia’s Tame Impala thanks to the weirdly catchy, post-apocalyptic psych-pop of their 2010 record Innerspeaker, so it makes sense that their first single from their upcoming Lonerism is the six-minute weirdo epic “Apocalypse Dreams.”
If you like your summer jams spacey and futuristic, packed with distorted layers of wailing guitar and kaleidoscoping effects, give this one a try – and even if you’re not feeling its classic guitar pop first section, wait for the drop, when Tame Impala half the tempo and turn a corner into a woozy, ‘70s-y slow-burner. Lonerism is due in October.
