Pretty good list. Don’t get the hype around Lil Wayne.

I would’ve put different MGMT and Santi tracks in there (e.g. Kids and L.E.S Artistes)

Also Cut Copy – Lights & Music should get a mention.

  4. jason

    Umm…

It’s so hard not to want to trash talk everyone’s musical tastes. I’ll do my best to resist.

Why eleven tracks? seems so arbitrary. Also, year-end lists in July are a little silly, no? Ok, ok, whatever.

stumbled on this website looking for a few new songs to download. mostly american so you kind of lost me on some of them, but here’s mine for the year from a British perspective – could only narrow it down to 15 and in no particular order

Arcade Fire – Wake Up (2007 or 8?)
Biffy Clyro – Who’s got a match? (Scottish rockers – check out their cover of ‘Umbrella’)
    Black Kids – Hurricane Jane
Cage the elephant – In one Ear
Duffy – warwick avenue (Welsh girl – beautiful soulful voice)
Glasvegas – Geraldine (More Scots rockers with retro feel)
Hot Chip – Ready for the Floor
Kings of Leon – Use Somebody
Ida Maria – Better When you’re Naked (don’t know where she’s from but she seems quite bonkers, and the song is a belting lung-buster)
Last Shadow Puppets – Age of the understatement (lead singer from the Arctic Monkeys collaborating with some other guy)
MGMT – Time to Pretend/Kids (can’t split them)
Noah & the Whale – 5 years time (beautiful quirky folk song with a great guest vocal by Laura Marling)
Razorlight – Wire to Wire (great British indie band)

Don’t mean to patronise anyone by adding some explanations – just not sure how many of the British songs you might be aware of. I’d definitely recommend listening to some Glasvegas and Biffy Clyro stuff. Hope this might be of benefit to some of you looking to listen to something different. Cheers

  46. rif

2 mistakes – electric feel is far superior to time to pretend and the same for black kids – the i’m not gonna teach your boyfriend to dance tune is much better.

  47. johnny mc beals
