A note on “My Girls”: Hating “My Girls” might be the new hating Vampire Weekend/MGMT/[insert critically acclaimed indie artist], and I’ve been feeling pressure about having it on or off my list’s top spot. It has always been my opinion that “My Girls” is the best song of the year, but this time I around I had a moment of weakness and bumped it off, in favor of Sufjan Steven’s beautiful and epic charity track, “You Are The Blood.” Though “You Are The Blood” might be the best arranged or composed track of the year, I still feel “My Girls” is the song that I will look back on years from now. “My Girls” is to 2009 what “Wolf Like Me” was to 2006; what “Idioteque” was to 2000. Unless a single more game-changing and influential than “My Girls” is released during the next couple of months, it will be staying at the top spot.
