The Gossip Are You That Somebody? (Aaliyah Cover) music mp3 covers
Umm, can I just say this? OH MY GOD!

When I saw that Confusion posted this last night, I thought I would die. No one should mess with “Are You That Somebody?” — especially not some shameless feminist punk rocking lesbian. But then I said that out loud (the “shameless feminist punk rocking lesbian” part), and decided that it was fuckin’ brilliant idea!

I’m glad Beth Ditto toned it down for her rendition of what has to be my favorite R&B song of all time. We didn’t need her flexing the golden pipes over this one. To be honest, I’d think Beth would be out of her element here, but the shameless feminist punk rocking lesbian sounds right at home making some smooth Rock&B tunes. It’s a good look.

Kate, I think you’re confused. Not only could it have been terrible, but it is, in fact, terrible.

I love this site and have had a number of friends become fans (you’re welcome), but this is the worst posting ever. This is the most soul-less , painful , karaoke level version of a CLASSIC song I have ever heard. This is truly an embarrassment to Aaliyah and hope that they never try to cover anything from Aaliyah again!!

Live Yes, Recorded . . . not so much June 25, 2009 at 8:55 am

I was never much on new age Rap/R&B. I just recently got into The Gossip and bought the Live in Liverpool DVD/CD where I first heard this rendition. I have a completely new respect for this song. I was trying to find a link to post for someone else and found this recorded version, which does it NO justice. Live is AWESOME. And for those slamming The Gossip, at least they play and write their own songs.

I rarely post, and every other post has been me raving about amazing music. Not this one. Not tonight

This cover is shameless junk. A horrible, horrible, thing. What a great song to destroy this way, Aaliyah would roll in her grave. Its a mess….
