Another week, another recap of music from GG, 90210, and CHUCK. Let’s do this.
Gossip Girl’s fifteenth episode of season two wasn’t particularly music-heavy. They had the smarts to go with brand spankin’ new Franz Ferdinand (No You Girls, You Never Know). Unfortunately, this isn’t that great of a song, and based off of Stereogum’s review, my anticipation for the album has been lower. Still, the chorus is great, and I’m pulling out for what could be a good album- Tonight drops on January 26th.
The episode also used The Faint’s robotic “Mirror Error” to bop along the show. Cool song.
The List:
“No, You Girls Never Know,” Franz Ferdinand
Watchmen What Is Left Of The Night,” Greycoats
“If You Could See Me Now,” Dan Cray Trio
90210 had a little more music in their latest episode, “Love Me Or Leave Me.” And it’s a great variety of up-and coming bands (The All New Adventures of Us), bigger indie rockers (The Airborne Toxic Event), mainstream pop (David Archuleta), and Adele! Good stuff- list below:
“Big Jumps” by Emiliana Torrini
“Cobrastyle” by Teddybears ft. Mad Cobra
“Look At Me (When I Rock Wichoo)” by Black Kids
“Could Be Happy” by Kurt Farquhar / True Music
“The Geeks Were Right” by The Faint
“You Are Goodbye” by Holly Conlan
“Hey Oh” by Daniel Lenz
“Does This Mean You’re Moving On?” by The Airborne Toxic Event
“When The Night” by Aaron Nazrul
“45 Forever” by The All New Adventures of Us
“Crush” by David Archuleta
“Hot Summer” by Rhys
“Broken Hearts Parade” by Good Charlotte
“Hometown Glory” by Adele
“Under My Bed” by Meiko
Finally, we wrap up Chuck’s first half of season two in music, almost in time for its 3-D return one day after the Super Bowl.
Episode 9 -” Chuck Vs. The Sensei”- was the first ep to feature music from up-and-comers Your Vegas. It effectively used the great song, “It Makes My Heart Break.” But to hear a truly brilliant use of song in a television show from Your Vegas, you had to wait a couple of weeks for the Christmas episode. But we’ll get to that in a second.
Another fantastic song used in episode nine comes from the band The Accidental. The song, “Time And Space,” with it’s beautiful group “whisper choir” (I just made that up!), pretty harmonies, and clap-along bridge, is excellent for both a TV show and for a good pair of headphones.
Episode ten, “Chuck vs. The DeLorean,” featured the very awesome Blitzen Trapper and their song “Furr.” That’s a recommended download.
Finally, and I know I’ve mentioned this before, but it deserves to be said again, Your Vegas’ haunting Christmas melody is used stunningly in Chuck’s most recent episode, “Chuck vs. Santa Clause.” The song, “Christmas And Me Are Through,” can easily be mistaken for another Killers holiday track, with its incredible vocals (I love Brandon Flowers’ voice, in case the comparison is confusing you) and building instrumentals. A fantastic listen, and a fantastic way to close Chuck’s first half of season two.
