The xx – Shelter (Them Jeans Drums Edit)

The xx Shelter (Them Jeans Drums Edit) mp3

The xx have just release their debut album XX, a chill, melancholy feel, reflective of a rainy day, type album. Throughout XX the band switches between male and female vocals, but “Shelter” focuses on singer-guitarists Romy Madley Coft’s slow voice and simple, yet beautiful guitar.

The cosmic original already gets remix treatment from Them Jeans. Keeping Coft’s pop-like voice obviously present, Them Jeans adds to the modern feel of the track by giving the track a dancey, upbeat feel. If the original is too “down in the dumps” check out the remix, it keeps the initial beauty of the song and adds a beat that makes the repetition and self-containment of the song less apparent. 1. Is this sampling Róisín Murphy’s “Modern Timing?” It sounds really similar to me.

Great for a late Friday “Back to Mine” type feel. Like it better than the original.
