I don’t know if I have something against Theophilus London subconsciously or something because I completely ignored his I Want You mixtape when it was released several weeks ago. I didn’t pick it up until I read about it at Chris Barth‘s blog. It’s still not blowing my socks off, but I can appreciate London’s talent and indie pop sensibilities, especially on the billowing “Give It Up Dad”, a sample borrowed from Vampire Weekend’s “Giving Up The Gun”. What’s with all these rappers suddenly sampling Vampire Weekend? Kid Cudi sampled “Ottoman” with “Cudderisback”, b.o.b sampled “The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance” on his track “The Kids”, and now Theophilus London is getting in on it. I mean, I like it, it just seems odd that everyone is doing it now
