Album cover for Odd Blood
Yeasayer are preparing to release their sophomore long player, Odd Blood on February 8 through Secret Canadian. You can see the trippy artwork for Odd Blood above. The album cover’s trippy make up is reminiscent of the music video for the fantastic “Ambling Alp”, and is a motif that runs through the core of Odd Blood.
“O.N.E.” is Odd Blood‘s midpoint, succeeding four mind-bending opening tracks, and it acts as a proper turning point for the album (you’ll see). As soon as “ONE” starts, the raw kinetic energy Yeasayer is piling onto this track is tangible, something you’re sure to embrace while you listen to Odd Blood. I’m willing to bet that “O.N.E.” will be 2010′s “My Girls” moment, early on.
However, “O.N.E.” and “My Girls” have very little in common. “O.N.E.” is irreverent, almost uncoordinated. It’s a small, excited child bursting with energy and charm; unpredictably throwing fits one minute and acting like a little angel the next.
UPDATE: Yeasayer are now giving away “O.N.E.” for free. Download the track below:

‘I Remember’ feels like the ‘My Girls’ imo.
Pretty disappointed with Odd Blood, was secretly hoping it would be more like Wolfgang….you know filled with ‘tightropes’ and ‘ambling alps’…
ps. I am well aware this is clearly knee-jerk
“Ambling Alp” and “Madder Red” are both cool. “One” is aiiight, looking forward to Odd Blood.
I really hope that Odd Blood doesn’t have as many “duds” as All Hour Cymbals. AHC was one of my favorites of 2007, but Germs, Worms and No Need To Worry were all filler tracks IMO. Wait for the Summer, 2080, Sunrise, Forgiveness and Wait for the Wintertime were some of my favorite songs of that year though
is it too early to call this the best album of 2010?
there are no duds and ‘one’ is one of the best moments of the album. its a little top-heavy – ambling alp, madder red, i remember, and one are the best tracks but i like them all. still haven’t gotten my head around ‘rome.’ been playing this over and over for two weeks, still can’t get enough.
I seriously think this is a solid album and can see it growing on me more and more over time. “One” is definitely one of the better tracks on the album.
This album was a disappointment. ONE sounds like a bad Tough Alliance knock off
“One” is phenomenal.
Phenomenal.
Here’s the real thing that I’m worried about. This album is way more electronic, and I can’t tell if I only like it because it’s so unexpected from Yeasayer, or if it’s something that would have felt legitimate coming from someone else like the Presets who have never proven themselves in the world of Folk.
Is Yeasayer just that versatile, or are they shooting themselves in the foot by straying from that folksy sound that served them so well on All Hour Symbols?
I’m so torn…
Although there are several extremely catchy, interesting songs (ONE, Rome and Ambling Alp spring to mind), I can’t help but feel a little disappointed with the direction Yeasayer have chosen to go in.
Maybe its just my personal aversion to disco pop, but I thought they could have taken the folky, psychedelic and world music influences further to create an even more interesting sound. This move to less experimental, disco-y synth pop seems to have ” dummed down” their sound a little, and many of the lyrics, though catchier, seem to have less to say.
Still a solid album, and I’ll be interested to see where they go next.
There’s something super familiar about a certain part of ONE. Doesn’t it sound like Scissor Sisters, or Under the Influence of Giants?

Not sure how I feel about this new album yet. But I’m still listening, so that’s a good sign.
I think ONE could easily be my track of 2010. Madder Red is probably my favorite track, but ONE just has this amazing energy that I think will allow it to crossover and appeal to a broad audience.
This is a blissful bit of pop that is unique and playful. I love the direction Yeasayer is going with the new album.
i’ve noticed that the music video version of o.n.e. is different compared to the LP version. anyone know where i can find it?
I’ve noticed the same thing. I much prefer the music video sound. I think they sped it up a bit, cut out some extraneous parts, and stifled that weird and prominent “chime” sound. If you find the Music Video version, I would love to know.
