Though he’s been in the public eye since 2008, Michael Atha aka Yelawolf has gained more attention this year, appearing on Paul Wall and Bizarre records, as well as Big Boi’s stellar Sir Lucious Left Foot. The Alabama rapper has just dropped a new single off his first mixtape while backed with a major label (Interscope), Trunk Muzik 0-60. “Billy Crystal” is emphasized by Yelawolf’s southern swagger accompanying a boisterous electro synth beat and evasive piano chords, growing fiercer as backup vocalists sing “Billy’s on the corner selling crystal meth.” Yelawolf’s first proper LP Radioactive comes out March 2011. Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
From his still-unannounced new album, featuring Thundercat, Bilal and production from Astronote.
With help from Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and an amazing piano.
These guys would probably get along if they ever met.
Another track from Future Brown’s upcoming self-titled record.
