have unleashed the first single from their highly anticipated new album, Popular Songs, out September 8th. Look at the gorgeous cover art up there. Yo La Tengo remain as one of my all-time most respected bands and one of the first bands to really usher me under the “indie” umbrella while a torrential downpour of commercial rap was attacking my then-bulky iPod.

This new single is as cool and smooth as they come. “Periodically Double or Triple” is led by a groovy bassline and even surprises you before it’s halfway done. Really looking forward to hearing some more of Popular Songs. Listen to “Periodically Double or Triple” after the jump.
