Chiddy Bang, The Swelly Express Mixtape Premiere pma presents music feature exclusive “The Swelly Express” is the true story of two college kids (Chidera Anamege and Xaphoon Jones) from Philly who rocked some parties at Drexel and quickly gained the attention of “the industry”.  The music and lyrics were inspired by many boring trips on the Chinatown bus (they have wifi now!) on the way to meet “big wigs” in NYC. After a bunch of nice dinners and some free drinks for these 2 underage kids, Chiddy Bang decided to make a mixtape. PMA is proud to present this mixtape with OnSMASH and Crooks & Castles.

AWESOME.
Missing some key tracks like “Because,” but I already have that so it's not a big deal. I've got my Chiddy fix for a while

This mixtape is FIRE! Kind of bummed “Because” isn't on it, but that's okay. It's been a long time coming…

these guys are about to blow the fuck up.. i can feel it. but they should have added Because, and their Day N Nite remix. that would have gotten attention by labels..

Reply

simmons RCG October 29, 2009 at 12:32 pm

personally, i'm happy as long as “Truth”, “Kids” (or “The Opposite of Adults” now), and “All Things Go” are on it.

I DO with Because was on it, but it doesn't really matter since I have the track already…

Awesome tape guys. It's cool, but just wondering why you changed the name from “Kids” to “The Opposite of Adults (KIDS)”?

Reply

kyle w October 29, 2009 at 12:24 pm

i'm guessing they only used the tracks of which the samples cleared, legally, like Passion Pit, MGMT, Sufjan, Yell, Belle & Seb.. or in other words indie artists. I guess the major label samples (Kid Cudi, Radiohead, Tom Waits) weren't as generous?

Or maybe they just didnt feel like putting them in… lol.

Tyler October 29, 2009 at 12:26 pm

good point

simmons RCG October 29, 2009 at 12:30 pm

i think you're onto something.

but wasn't “Reckoner” (the radiohead track sampled in “because”) self-released in 07 and then released on XL in 08? XL recording works w/ Discovery, Vampire Weekend, MIA, Friendly Fires, Basement Jaxx, Cool Kids, etc. So I think Radiohead are back to being “indie” :)

finally, hot shit from these guys.. i can bump chiddy bang all day. Respect.

What garbage! I am a huge Chiddy Bang fan, but it's like all of the really sick tracks came out before this shitty album which is half composed of skits. SO DISAPPOINTED!

Reply

KiKi October 29, 2009 at 12:50 pm

lol hater alert.

we all knew all the chiddy tracks leaking before were to lead up to the mixtape. it makes sense that they released some of the biggest ones before ther mixtape. there are still some hot ones in here that we've never heard “Silver Screen” “Slow Down” “Get Up In The Morning” & i like the skits. it backs up the “music based on a true story” feel.

I just noticed that they never said the N-word on this mixtape did they? even on the Biggie sample. I think that's pretty cool, especially how it's like the most common word on a lot of mixtapes these days. Also, living in DC, I'm a big Wale fan. And as good and fresh Wale and Chiddy Bang both are, I think Chiddy Bang has the most potential and could do whatever they want. Also, I think Wale would sound great on one of their songs….

This stuff is ill

But let me take a moment to state that its almost always a mistake to step on a track with Black Thought of the Legendary Roots Crew. He's too animalistic.

Regardless, the Mixtape is quality. Xaphoon is a hell of a producer. He's the reason they're getting props, he's doing some amazing samples.

so excited when i heard about this! i hope its awesome.

SHLA October 30, 2009 at 9:06 pm

Not as Instantly grabbing as many of the earlier songs were. But there's plenty of good stuff there, classic case of over expectation/hype an waiting so long for it too drop. However chiddy bang are still putting nearly everything else to shame musically. Cant wait for the album.

Reply

SHLA October 30, 2009 at 9:07 pm

they should not have dropped the other members of the group either.

Reply

wowowowow October 31, 2009 at 8:48 pm

They did nothing in the group… they were obsolete. good riddance.

Reply

Darnell October 31, 2009 at 10:19 pm

They were really important to the group in the earlier stages. I get the feeling Chid wanted to be more of a rapper and less of a band, so he kicked out everyone except the producer. Either way, their recordings remain the same. They will be missed, though.
