’s first album since Encore finally has a release date: will drop on May 19th.

And in a more surprising announcement, the rapper plans to release Relapse 2 by the end of 2009! This is pretty good news for the rap world. Here’s Eminem’s statement from the press release:

“A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year. I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff.”

Sounds pretty good. Although I’m not the biggest fan of “Crack A Bottle,” I have faith in Slim Shady. Do you?

I don’t think he’s the type of guy to release an additional album when it sucks so I’m pretty excited about his albums even though I never was a big Eminem fan, I don’t even like Crack a Bottle but for some reason I feel like Relapse and Relapse 2 are going to be great. Time will tell.

Still can’t believe he stole Aesop & Del’s beat for that song. I’ll bet the albums will still be good, though.

as a long time eminem fan, i want to say he really needs to step it up. his earlier music was amazing, no doubt. but ever since encore he’s been falling off. eminem needs to go back to his roots, stop sounding so mainstream, and expand his horizons and style. if ‘crack a bottle’ is any sign of what his new stuff is going to sound like, than relapse 1 & 2 is going to be hugely disappointing to a lot of fans.

naeem, I must agree with you. Encore was a huge disappoinment for me, and I am a huge fan of his works. l think his best music is angry and his lyrics are usually razor sharp on those songs (“I Am”, “Kill You” come to mind…). These mainstream songs he’s put out lately, Crack a Bottle included, are just to happy and fun and… not Eminem. Here’s hoping that these two albums make up for the past years…
