Not quite sure what to make of this one.I’m surprised P4K didn’t give them a U.2.
Their critic Ryan Dombal calls No Line On The Horizon a “a defensive gesture, and a rather pitiful one at that.”
U2 has been getting both a lot of love and, well, a lot of more love lately.
What do you guys think? Have you heard No Line On The Horizon yet (if not, it’s streaming on U2′s MySpace)? Does it deserve praise or criticism?
PMA’s review will be up very shortly, probably early in this week.

Haven’t heard it and I’m not really interested, for some reason U2 always dissapoints me, every U2 album I tried so far dissapointed me, their hitsingles are alright I guess, at least some of them are but when I listen to their albums I always get the impression Bono sits down, writes as much as he can, releases it and prays there’s something in it people will like.
Yeah.. RS and EW would like this album. Ha, but I have to agree with P4K this time.
Are you going to keep us updated on all of their album reviews? Haha.
Yea no offense to the poster, but shouldn’t you guys just worry about your review instead of a different site? I mean it is just their opinion, not everyones gonna like a certain sound/album.
I agree with P4K’s review almost 100%
Haha i just think that when pitchfork bashes such a high-profile band, it’s PMA news-worthy.
Well, Brent, Pitchfork isn’t JUST a different site. But yeah, this was an unnecessary post. Most people agree that the U2 album sucks, or isn’t very good.
News would be when P4K gave AC a 9.6 or when they gave NASA a 1.6, not giving U2 a score a bit lower than they probably deserve (5ish, imho).
no offense hopefully was taken by my comments, i like everything Adam has posted so far. Miniature Tigers album has been on repeat since the post!
Brent- No offense taken. Glad you enjoy the Miniature Tigers!
However, I do feel that Pitchfork giving a band like U2 a score less than 5 is news, due to what Jake says: Pitchfork isn’t JUST a different site. it is the ultimate tastemaker in indie music.
And then I have to go and disagree with Jeff, because the reviews for U2′s album have been very, very positive. Whether you like it or not, No Line On The Horizon has got good buzz going for it- try googling U2 album review.
Get pumped for my review.
U2 haven’t done a song worth a squirrel’s ass in about 16 years, why anyone still cares about them is beyond me. I’m surprised that Pitchfork even waste time reviewing their new album, they’re just a bunch of has-beens who are too cheap (all those crazy sunglasses can’t be cheap) and lazy to try and make good music again.
U2′s “No Line On The Horizon” MP3 Album download for $4
Today only, the Amazon MP3 Store offers downloads of U2′s No Line On The Horizon for $3.99. That’s the lowest price we could find for this 11-track, DRM-free album, released today. (iTunes charges $9.99.) Amazon MP3 Downloader is required.
What I want to know is why did PMA take it on itself to start posting recaps of everything Pitchfork does? Seriously, frequently tagging behind them on news updates is neither helpful nor appreciated — I read PMA because it delivers the jams, exclusive and breaking, and find this more distracting than productive.
More to the point, why validate Pitchfork’s hyper-self-involved opinions by giving them additional publicity (and, therein, sway)? I guess at the end of it all, I’m a little confused by what purpose this post serves at all, if not to create some ridiculous idea of “pre-hype” for PMA’s eventual review of the album. Comparing Pitchfork reviews to Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly is laughable. I think what the #2 and #3 posters here said gets the point across best — don’t waste your time and ours with this. Just stick to posting to fantastic music.
U2′s NLOH is at its best an attempt to further vindicate the band’s relevance in today’s world. Apart from Bono’s constant philanthropist shit U2 is still a band which kicks and pulls. They are a sum of its parts rather than an individual addition. NLOH is a clear example of this, being really sparse and at times unfocused. But, it is not a 4.6 album, if anything is a 7.2 album. It is a good effort, and its clear that Brian Eno and Lenois reviewed their old Spector book for this one. The production is spacial, which I like. “Unknown Caller” and “Cedars of Lebanon” are standouts, bringing The Edge back to form. Kudos for trying, and if the hype for the unreleased tracks from the session are true then we should expect a much better album by the end of the year hopefully. One thing though: Fuck Spidey, stick with The Fly .
