Updated: Wayne Coyne vs. Arcade Fire news music

Please let this not be true. It seems that Flaming Lips frontman Coyne may actually be the prick in this situation, as he has dissed many bands and artists in the past (Arctic Monkeys, Beck, Duffy, and Oasis, to name a few). But he claims that my idols, my music heroes, Arcade Fire, “treat people like s***.” It sounds like Mr. Coyne may be just a tad bit jealous if you read the full quote, which is posted after the jump. Can we trust Coyne’s word? Or is Arcade Fire still the best? Warning: Intense language and Arcade Fire-dissing after the jump.

UPDATE: Win Butler has responded on his blog. Just click on “Win” and “Win’s Scrapbook” HERE. All hope is redeemed- Arcade Fire is the best.

Coyne:

I’m a fan of them on one level, but on another level I get really tired of their pompousness. We’ve played some shows with them and they really treat people like s**t. Whenever I’ve been around them, I’ve found that they not only treated their crew like s**t, they treated the audience like s**t. They treated everybody in their vicinity like s**t. I thought, “Who do they think they are?” I don’t know why people put up with it. I wouldn’t put up with it. I don’t care if it’s Arcade Fire or Brian Eno. If either of them walked into a room and treated people like s**t I’d be like, “F**k you, get outta here.”

People treat Arcade Fire like they’re the greatest thing ever and they get away with it. Those sort of opinions change my view of their music. They have good tunes, but they’re pricks, so f**k ‘em. Who does Arcade Fire think they are? I’ve been around groups. I’ve been around the Edge from U2 and he’s the f*****g sweetest guy ever. I was around Justin Timberlake when he was young and he was just a normal, nice, kind person. Anyone can be polite and kind and people who have the privilege and money and attention should understand that. If they don’t, then f**k ‘em.

Verdict: Arcade Fire is still the best. Thanks, RS.

I like the band, if they are pricks or not is they prerogative, not my problem, and i still loved both Arcade Fire and Flaming Lips

i dont see the jealousy, his opinion is based on what he’s witnessed, i dont see why he would make that up; but yeah he’s like a mellow version of the gallagher bros. talking about other bands and calling people on stuff which can be a little bit annoying.
on the other i like AF but i dont think they’re the greatest thing ever.

I’ve been back stage with the Arcade Fire for one of their free shows for Obama and they seemed cool and nice to everyone around them. I got a chance to work with Wayne and he was a super cool dude too. Don’t know who to trust here.

Even if they are dicks, who is Wayne to be the judge of that and spread the word to major media sources? Seems like that’s the real dick move to make.

NEWSFLASH #1: Most artists (writers, musicians etc) are ASSHOLES. In fact, I think most people are idiots, so why artists should be nicer than normal people is beyond me.

NEWSFLASH #2: I don’t give a shit, I don’t intend to make them the godparents of my future kids, or invite them home for dinner, I just want to listen to their songs, read their books etc.
