Muse Uprising stream music
Muse is officially back with their upcoming album The Resistance and its first single, “Uprising.” About a week ago, the band leaked “United States of Eurasia / Collateral Damage” to mixed feelings on my part. “Uprising” does very little to help set these feelings straight.

“Uprising” tries less to imitate Freddie Mercury, and focuses on delivering a synth-laden, irrefutably danceable anthem The Killers would be jealous of. For better or for worse, “Uprising” is typical Muse nosh — conspiracy, big government, Orwellian fan fare. Stylistically, “Uprising” is reminiscent of my favorite Muse track, “Time Is Running Out” — for better, without a doubt.

Catch Muse performing “Uprising” at this year’s MTV VMAs in September. Buy The Resistance September 14th. Listen to “Uprising” here.

I think you’re being a bit harsh on them, I actually like this song’s pacing. I can’t believe their gonna be performing at the VMA’s this year, Muse has been largely ignored by the US so far, so i’m glad this will give them more exposure

I really am pleased with the direction they are going.

This is a pretty cool track. The “Come on!” with the lead guitar matching reminded me of that stupid “Call me! Call me call me call me anytime…” song, which rather annoyed me. I like this much better than U.S.E., though. It’s a more Muse styled song, whereas U.S.E. tried much too hard to sound like Queen.

What’s great is that you can see that as Muse progresses through different styles, they retain things from songs previous whilst still sounding completely different.

I like it, but it sounds like they took the riff from Billy Idol’s/Generation X’s “White Wedding” and played it on the synth.

A little too slow for my taste… I love the ‘epic’ sound that muse has when it’s fast and loud, like a constant crescendo. This one is quite… 80s. Sigh. I look forward to the rest of the album.

With this album anyone expecting anything similar to their previous works will be disappointed… and i for one am glad. Not because i didnt like their other albums (on the contrary they are the soundtrack to my life) but because it would have been easy for them 2 churn out another absolution, or origin. By constantly changing style and direction they keep their music fresh. Also by dissmissing U.S.E as poor because it sounds like queen is nonsense. Music will constantly be reinvented and restyled, rarely anything today is new, but merely reinterpreted. To all worried about the first two tracks i say this- wait until u hear them on the album, in context with the other tracks. It will all fall into place…… p.s “ ‘Uprising’ is typical Muse nosh — conspiracy, big government, Orwellian fan fare.” – thats why i love music, the ridiculous, other-worldly lyrics and outrageous concepts…. but thats just me :)

I liked it. Wasn’t mad gone on the intro – those synths almost bordered on sissor sisters, but as the track went in it grew on me. Looking forward to the album.

I thought Knights of Cydonia was a cool political song. When I found out Matt meant Cydonia on Mars I thought it was even cooler…and weirder. I’m curious whether this album takes place on Earth or Mars.

Regardless, the new album is one of my biggest anticipations this year. I’ve been impatiently waiting. At least I’ve had the Battle Circus EP to obsess over in the meantime. And now their album to look forward to sometime after Muse’s album drops. A great year for music, indeed!

Uprising didn’t stick with me on first listen but it’s grown on me a lot. Considering it’s a formulaic single in the vein of Supermassive Black Hole I’m not worried. That album still ranks as a favorite.

“Uprising” seems to be a combo of “Personal Jesus,” “Call Me,” and “White Wedding.”
