Last night’s was a bit sleepy. They played the same two songs quite a bit (one of them a nice track that I wholly approve of, and another featuring Blair Waldorf herself). Despite showing some bias with , Gossip Girl also paid tribute to one of the blogosphere’s favorite French rockers, .

Other than that, the second episode was void of any other savvy music selections. A bit odd for Gossip Girl, but it’s been known to happen. Will the smooth, irresistible stylings of Phoenix be enough to call this episode a win?

Phoenix is everywhere now.
[download id="289"] This song probably fits the episode most. Plus it’s so catchy, it’s stupid.

I’ll go with no. I would have been a bit more impressed if Gossip Girl played Phoenix’s new single, “Fences,” and not the song everyone’s been creaming about for over half a year now (“1901″). Hell, I’d even settle for the superior “Lisztomania,” or the oft-criminally ignored “Big Sun.”

I feel you Luis, one of the worst music jobs on the show. I don't know what was Alex thinking but it sucked.

On Gossip Girl fan page on FB there was a status where you could ask her any question I just hope that we will hear answers to the most interesting ones. I asked her if she planned on comissioning (in lack of a better term) a band that would do a song just for GG.

Well I think that we can bet that in some of the future episodes there will be a song from Gossip. My money is on the Dimestore Diamond, it has that GG sound to it (which is a stupid qualification but still).

While I'm guessing songs that we might hear this season, let me throw in “Song For No One” by Miike Snow. “Eazy Speaks” by Apostle of Hustle. Passion Pit, maybe “Little Secrets” or “The Reeling.” Discovery “Orange Shirt”

Those are all very… Gossip Girl-y. lol

Phoenix saved this ep for me. Too much cobra starship love (which isn't really a bad thing, but just weird for GG). But at least the episode was interesting. Minus Nate Archibald. He's such a snoozefest and his new Whoville girlfriend is just as boring too.

Even if 1901 is adorned by everyone, you can't knock that song because there are so many great remixes of it out there that it never gets old, atleast not quite yet. Just Jack's Embers is one of his best songs, can you just start watching season 3? or will you be lost if you havent seen the previous two?

I love 1901, but I would like other great Phoenix tracks to see some exposure as well (hello, Lisztomania). Oh and I do not recommend just jumping in season 3… not because you'll be lost or something like that (though you probably will be), but you'll probably end up disliking it :P

you'll be a little lost, and sort of bored. it has been relying heavily on
the characters' pasts so far.

PS: i love 1901, but I was just saying that there would are better, less
exposed choices.

Hot Mess is one of the catchiest tracks I've heard in ages, the rest of the album is really fun top. Cobra Starship is great live too, I would definitely recommend you see them.

Wow talk about pretentious. You talk about the song 1901 as if it's overplayed? Hardly anyone even knows Phoenix so everyone creaming over it, is a bit ridiculous. You complain about their choice in Phoenix songs but not about the horribly lame and untalented, especially in lyrics, of Cobra Starship? I think you need to reassess your choice in music taste.

That sucks that phoenix was defiled by this horrible teeny bopper tv show nothing but posers were at the phoenix show in la who only came to hear songs that came out on the radio despite that they had 3 albums before that well now I know why there were so many douche bags at the show
