Last night’s Gossip Girl was a bit sleepy. They played the same two songs quite a bit (one of them a nice Just Jack track that I wholly approve of, and another featuring Blair Waldorf herself). Despite showing some bias with Cobra Starship, Gossip Girl also paid tribute to one of the blogosphere’s favorite French rockers, Phoenix.
Other than that, the second episode was void of any other savvy music selections. A bit odd for Gossip Girl, but it’s been known to happen. Will the smooth, irresistible stylings of Phoenix be enough to call this episode a win?

[download id="287"] This song has been stuck in my head all summer long, I resent it now.

[download id="289"] This song probably fits the episode most. Plus it’s so catchy, it’s stupid.
I’ll go with no. I would have been a bit more impressed if Gossip Girl played Phoenix’s new single, “Fences,” and not the song everyone’s been creaming about for over half a year now (“1901″). Hell, I’d even settle for the superior “Lisztomania,” or the oft-criminally ignored “Big Sun.”
