Leave it to Los Angeles sonic wizards Capital Cities (fb) to bring together André 3000 and the booming voice of NPR’s Frank Tavares. On a track called “Farrah Fawcett Hair,” no less.

Genre- and description-ducking, this is a miracle of a song. If only because even as you’re listening to it you aren’t entirely sure if it’s really happening at all. Every second of it is ridiculous, self-aware and utterly joyous. You’re allowed to laugh. But once you’re done doing that, you’ll almost definitely be singing along to “Like Michael Jackson Thriller / Like Farrah Fawcett hair / it’s good shit / it’s good shit, yeah!”

Capital Cities’ In a Tidal Wave of Mystery is out June 4.

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
