The Swedish songwriter Neneh Cherry’s new record Blank Project is her first solo record of new music in 16 years, so she’s coming back with a bang – the whole record’s a collaboration with the percussive brotherly duo Rocketnumbernine, and was produced by Four Tet. One track even features guest vocals from Robyn, but, of course, you’ll have to wait for the whole record to hear that one – in the meantime, we’re sure you’ll be adequately tided over by “Blank Project,” Cherry’s title track and first single, a simmering, undulating jam. Cherry builds her singular, teasing vocals up on top of Rocketnumbernine’s swarming, evil backdrop; the result might be the weirdest (and resolutely the catchiest) pop song you’ll hear this week. Check it out - Blank Project is out Februray 25.

Reviews

Kelis’ sixth and finest LP is not the gastronomic concept album suggested by its title. Food is instead a feast of sweaty funk grooves and impeccable soul melodies, consistently satisfying and often fabulous.
