No artist is an island anymore, as this remix of the Norah Jones song “Chasing Pirates” by Santigold and Snotty shows.

Compared to the much sunnier, jazzy original, a deep, ominous drum beat and dark brooding synths steers the track into rougher waters. And by lowering the pitch on Jones’s vocals ever so slightly, Santigold and Snotty have managed to create an absolute demonic possession of a remix, turning pop siren Jones into a gloomy electro succubus.

It’s a bit goth, perhaps a bit less endearing than the original, but nonetheless deserves your ears as a kind of creepy perversion that can happen when a bubblegum pop track gets put into darker, alternative hands.
