With a solid contender for guitar riff of 2k13, here’s our latest taste from of Montreal’s caps-averse new record lousy with sylvanbriar, “belle glade missionaries.” It’s a fantastic six-minute track that reads like a peek into the band’s charmingly weird world – Kevin Barnes goes hard in the lyrical arena, expostulating on government conspiracy one minute, then calling out a would-be lady friend for posting naked .gifs of herself and aspiring to be the female Henry Miller, “exploiting peoples’ madness,” while the rest of his band delivers a tightly-wound, day-glo ’60s psych backdrop, seemingly aspiring to use every instrument in the studio. Check it out – lousy with sylvanbriar is out October 8.

Not the Cyndi Lauper song you’re probably thinking of.
Samples the song of the same name by Quindon Tarver, from the ’96 Romeo + Juliet soundtrack
