Despite the one-two punch of Paralytic Stalks and Daughter of Cloud in 2012, Of Montreal are back with a new record, lousy with sylvanbriarfor 2013. Yes, it’s the band’s lowercase record – its first single, “fugitive air,” is Shift-averse too. It’s a pretty, bubbly, 70s-style psychedelic nostalgia trip, recorded on a 24-track tape machine in the band’s home studio. In a press release, Kevin Barnes announced he wanted this record to be more fast-paced and lyric-driven, and “fugitive air” is living proof: is it just us, or is that opening lyric “it makes me feel like a real man to put hegemony over my business”? We’re excited to see what other hilarious turns of phrase Barnes serves up on this one – it’s out October 8, and you’ll have no trouble putting “fugitive air” on repeat in the meantime.

Of Montreal – lousy with sylvianbriar:

fugitive air
obsidian currents
belle glade missionairies
sirens of your toxic spirit
colossus
triumph of disintegration
amphibian days
she ain’t speakin’ now
hegira émigré
raindrop in my skull
imbecile rages
