After listening to this “Wondamix” of Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope”, I have question the reasoning behind putting B.o.B. and Lupe Fiasco’s on the track, in the first place. The two weren’t particularly bad, but rather, unceremoniously uninspired. Nothing about the first half of the Wondamix stands out, not until Janelle really jumps on the track. We’ve already praised Monae of her uncanny ability to blend, mash and tip-toe around traditional genre-lines. I never thought I’d be writing gushing praise for her ability to out-rap, nay, flat-out school B.o.B. and Lupe Fiasco. To quote a friend: Girl, you bad. LISTEN HERE.
On Tuesday, Levis’ Pioneer Sessions: The Revival Recordings single project released a cover of “Fools Rush In” by She & Him, the third in the series, which also released covers by Nas and the Swell Season. Today, the Pioneer Sessions are giving away Dirty Projectors’ cover of Bob Dylan’s classic “I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine”. You can listen to and download it here.
Jay-Z has managed to stay quite busy since releasing his Blueprint 3, working with one way or another with Drake, Eminem, Dr. Dre and even Jack White. “Ultra”, filled with Evil Empire tags, is audible proof that Jay-Z hasn’t been staying away from the studio. Listen and download it here.
