PMA Presents... The Xaphoon Jones Mixtape Vol. 1 pma presents music exclusive We knew Xaphoon Jones first as the producer and the sampling mastermind behind the quickly rising Chiddy Bang. Chiddy Bang owe most of the publicity they get to the tight, slick samples this guy has crafted for them. Like a musical pickpocket, Xaphoon Jones showed us that he has an ear for contemporary music and making it work in unconventional environments. With his debut eponymous mixtape, Xaphoon pushes passed the boundaries we thought he had and dips into soulful Motown favorites, East Coast Rap, and Reggae.

The Xaphoon Jones Mixtape Vol. 1 introduces us to a very young, very talented producer full of promise, if not power. Pretty Much Amazing is proud to present this mixtape for your consumption. Download it, put it on your iPod, burn it onto a CD, play it at a party, send it to your friends.

I have given birth to 7 of xaphoon’s children. I haven’t told him about them though, because I don’t want him to get distracted from producing more tracks.

we give Chiddy Bang love on HiphoPolitico! their use of indie and classic rock songs appeals to other crowds plus they have The Roots’ backing so I think their set to break out.

MUSIC AINT ABOUT PUBLICITY ITS ABOUT MUSIC. MAKE IT AND THEY WILL COME. SO FUCK YOU MICHAEL HATERS BURN

Reply

michael, i am pretty sure that chiddy bang has opened for the roots quite a few times. if the roots are feeling your music, that pretty much says it.

Reply

michael September 1, 2009 at 1:03 pm

I never said that music is about publicity. Luis Tovar made the connection, in the second sentence of his first paragraph, and I responded to that in my above-referenced comment. I just said that I found, in my personal opinion, that this mixtape was mediocre at best.

Stay classy, ANONYMOUS! Oh, and fuck you too!!!!!! But, please don’t “burn”. Wildfire is serious, and only you can prevent forest fires.

This mix really isnt that good…Its a start but it tries to cover too much that it losses its tastefulness….MGMT and Bob Marley?? Come on.

Everyone needs to get the fuck over MGMT

Also it never really goes anywhere…

spinbad or dj p and z-trip “uneasy listening” it ain’t. the bob marley mix was unfortunate and a lot of the mixes were generic but others were cheesy good fun. thumbs up to testify and swimming in the sky. digging the darwin deez too. that’s that.

Reply

jason September 6, 2009 at 10:12 pm

lame mashup. ultimately simple and trite. the only respectables on there are the biggie track and the snatch off of charizma with the ‘apple juice break’. you all need to listen to some real mashups from people who actually dig and can find a track that is not off the billboard charts.

Reply

anon December 15, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Not that I necessarily disagree, jason, but care to provide some examples of some real mashups?

Anybody hating on this guy should just go back to listening to their Lil’ Wayne and Soulja boy. I agree that not every song is amazing, but there are a few tracks on here that are way better than most mainstream hip hop. The Bob Marley and MGMT remix is most definitely a chill track. This is true hip hop creative genius
