Death Cab for Cutie’s seventh record Codes and Keys bears the band’s most heavy-handed use of electronic elements release to date, so it makes sense they tapped Australian electro-pop kings Cut Copy to remix album standout “Doors Unlocked and Open” for an upcoming remix EP.
The result sounds more like a classic Cut Copy sweaty dance party riot in the vein of the best stuff on their latest release Zonoscope than a Death Cab song – gone is the original’s awesome kraut-y groove and intertwining, winding guitar. But that’s okay – all the tribal percussion and synth arpeggios that replace the original instrumentation makes for something a whole lot more fun.
