Four Tet’s original “Lion” was a slow-burning nine minute jam from Pink, a singles collection he released this year; this version leaves the song’s structure in the hands of Jamie xx, who’s shortened the track into a somewhat more chomp-sized seven minute package and layered in his classic shuffling, trance-y percussion, hissing tape fog, and a clattering, film-noir beat that’s as vaguely unsettling as it is utterly hypnotic. It’s worth a couple listens in good headphones – listen close to hear Jamie’s totally singular knack for interpolating the strangest, most mesmerizing sounds into a clubby house track. Check it out.
