Gorillaz and Blur frontman, Damon Albarn, is the latest musician to rework one of Lana Del Rey’s singles, joining the likes of Clams Casino, Joy Orbison, Jamie Woon and The Internet (and surely countless others).
Albarn’s remix is driven by a persistent and catchy percussion loop, that at various points in the track is layered with percolating bass, piano lulls and bouncy synth taken from old NES cartridges. The result is pretty great; Lana’s singular voice sounds as natural here as it does behind Clams Casino’s waterfall of haze and overblown synths. Let’s hope somebody gets Lizzy in the studio with one of these guys.
