French electro label Ed Banger Records have released a reworking of MGMT’s lengthy cut, “Siberian Breaks” from this year’s psychedelic happy Congratulations. Represented by label founder Pedro Winter a.k.a. Busy P, with colleagues So Me and Breakbot, the remix begins not far off from the original, focusing on acoustic guitars and gentle piano chords. VanWyngarden and Goldwasser’s marriage of vocals are gracefully subdued as faint elements of disco are gradually introduced into the mix. Almost seven minutes in and the song shifts out of nowhere into this rave-like electronic expedition whose grimy beats grow more obstreperous by the second. Pretty rad.
