New Build, the new project of Hot Chip’s Felix Martin and Al Doyle and their frequent producer and collaborator, Tom Hopkins, planning to release their debut record this year, and they’re making a name for themselves with ample simgles and remixes. After featuring the Berlin-via-UK electronic songwriter and performance artist Janine Rostron, better known as Planningtorock, on their first released single “Finding Reasons”, New Build decided to let her have a go on their track “Misery Loves Company” as well.
Rostron delivered a minimalist, steel-drum laden rework with plenty of pitchshifted vocals. It’s relaxed enough to put on when you’re trying to fall asleep, but a little too complex to do the job – sweeping layers of diverse percussion, throbbing bass, and dizzying synth will keep you awake trying to figure it all out.
