We’ve got mixed feelings about remixes that enlist every single rapper who had the time to record a verse – often, they end up sounding weird and crowded and uncomfortably endless. But then we’ve got jams like this remix of Ab-Soul’s Ali-produced “Black Lip Bastard,” which enlists the rest of his cohorts in L.A. based ensemble Black Hippy – including the much buzzed-about Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and Jay Rock. Over a creepy-sexy piano-and-strings beat, everyone drops brutal, electric, and stingingly smart verses. Far from sounding overloaded, it almost sounds too short. In other words –– it’s truly dope. Check it out.
