Hmmm, I remember Beyonce singing a song with a similar premise years ago in her Destiny’s Child days (“Independent Women,” anyone?). The r&b diva has a new record coming out this summer and the first single has hit the internet. Produced by Diplo Switch and Beyonce and co-written by The-Dream and again, Beyonce, “Run The World (Girls)” samples Major Lazer‘s “Pon De Floor,” maintaining the heavy dancehall vibe, but adding doses of pop to it, backed by Bey‘s dominating vocals.

The lyrics pertain very much to “girls who run this mutha…”; Beyonce‘s fourth still untitled LP is said to be coming out sometime this year, no confirmed date yet. Check out the official single version of “Run The World” below:

Let’s be honest here, the jovial “Pon De Floor” makes this song. And while we’re being honest, props to Switch and Beyonce who seem to have executed this sample quite nicely this time around. The demo floating around earlier was god awful. This ain’t no “Single Ladies” though. It’s not even a “Deja Vu.” “Run The World” is out now on iTunes.
