This bit of pop candy from the new Columbia Recordings artist Chlöe Howl has flavors at once reminiscent Lilly Allen, Foster The People and Passion Pit. The seventeen year-old Brit’s first released song has a pop sweetness with an irreverent bite to it. “Fuck your no strings,” she sings with just enough emphasis to call your attention away from the bouncy synth. It’s at once catchy and thought-provoking, pimping the variety of subversiveness that actually makes an artist popular. We’ll see if it works out for Howl in 2013.
