Are you feeling really American this morning? Are you jazzed about making a difference with your vote yesterday? Are you hopeful that the next four years won’t be more of the same partisan gridlock? Are you super hungover? Whatever your post-election feelings, get pumped up on patriotic spirit with Sufjan Stevens’ cover of our national anthem. He doesn’t quite evoke Hendrix (more of the customary horns ‘n’ strings than guitar alchemy, not to say Sufjan doesn’t break out some abstract wailing) nor is it a version you’d hear at any sports game in the conceivable future, but it’s still gorgeous and inspiring. Whatever your politics, celebrate with Sufjan the fact that we have – and exercised! – the right to elect who we want to lead us. Flags up!

Also peep a new cut from Stevens‘ upcoming Christmas release Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Volumes 6-10 – his cover of the seasonal classic “Angels We Have Heard On High.” That record’s out November 13.
