It was clearly a fun week in the studio for The National: within a few days they’ve dropped two covers, one hilarious and one more serious, both based on some great American television.
One is a version of the Thanksgiving song sung by Linda on the Fox cartoon Bob’s Burgers, which features the refrain “kill, kill, kill, kill the turkey” in Matt Berninger’s distinctively emotive baritone. The other refers to some more historic traditions – it’s a cover of the 1924 song “I’ll See You In My Dreams” by Isham Jones and the Ray Miller Orchestra, which appeared on the always chilling Boardwalk Empire this weekend. Listen to both while you wait for new original material from the band.
