New Childish Gambino x Das Racist’s Heems: “Tell Me”

“Tell Me” is the latest in the string of recent Childish Gambino tracks that show Glover honing his craft (see also: “Unnecessary” with ScHoolboy Q and “We Ain’t Like Them”). He’s once again brought in a superior rapper to associate himself with, this time Das Racist’s incorrigible MC Heems (his 2012 mixtape Nehru Jackets ranks among our favorite releases of the year). Throw these two over a great maximalist, Kanye-indebted beat and you’ve got yourself quite the banger. We’re still holding out for a Childish Gambino-Danny Brown collab though.

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
