While the flash player for the French radio show Label Pop is rather annoying, it’s actually a great presentation for this new Devendra Banhart song. You have to take a break from the automated Soundcloud or Spotify gravy train to go on a thirty second quest, encountering the new Strokes single and the French language as you fast forward to the Banhart grail. You’re gonna remember this song for more than its annoying/exciting stream format, however. “Cristobal Risquez” is as laid back and pleasurable as a sunny Parisian café, and is probably being played in one right now. We wish we were there. Listen here.
The new album, Mala, is out 3/12 on Nonesuch Records. Also check out “Für Hildegard von Bingen” and “Never Seen Such Good Things.”
