L.A.’s Electric Guest make a lot of noise for two people (and producer Danger Mouse) – a highlight from their debut record Mondo, “Awake,” is intricately and maximally layered, what with that killer bassline, guitar riff, choir vocals, handclaps… But Electric Guest wears their oft-electronic indie pop maximalism very, very well; we dare you to not have “Awake” stuck in your head for days on end. We doubt you’ll be able to let this one fade into background music, but even if you do, that jarring and amazing beat change about four minutes in will jerk you out of your reverie. If you liked Danger Mouse’s collaboration with the Shins’ James Mercer as Broken Bells, you’ll love this. Check it out.
