“New Lover” begins a stuttering acoustic guitar which quickly rolls out into the lovely chords which make up the backbone of the song. Ritter sings and plays with the lighthearted feel of someone who has been recently unburdened from a troubled romantic past by an invigorating new love. Something in the insistent acoustic guitars, or maybe the sweet tang of his voice puts me in mind of The Tallest Man on Earth, except he holds back the heart-wrenching wails. This happily spacious song is off the Idaho native’s next album, The Beast In Its Tracks, due out March 5.
