Listen: The Weeknd – “Valerie”

With The Weeknd’s Trilogy out next Tuesday, it should come to no one’s surprise that the new songs from the mixtape compilation are starting to hit the web. We’ve already heard “Twenty Eight,” and now the full version of “Valerie” has been premiered by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1.

While these new songs are meant to supplement the music from House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, we can’t help feeling the new material is markedly more emotionally raw and open than the cynical debauchery proudly put on display on his mixtapes. We’ll see how it fits together on November 13.
