Lower Dens’ new record Nootropics sounds like krautrock Beach House, which is probably why we’re loving it so much. Second single “Lamb” (it follows up the maybe actually flawless “Brains,” which we’ve still got on constant rotation) is an awesome, synthy, darkwave track in the vein of bands like Trust or Light Asylum – cold drones, echoing drum machine, underwater guitar and bass riffs – and we can’t get enough of those incredible moments when singer and principal songwriter Jana Hunter’s voice breaks from its normally refined M.O. into a serious, breathtaking croon reminiscent of, yep, Victoria Legrand. Nootropics drops May 1.
