We’ve been hearing a lot about Lupe Fiasco’s third and possibly final album titled LupE.N.D. Lasers. While Lupe Fiasco leaks are a dime a dozen around the internets (I just stay away now), Lupe himself has confirmed that “What U Want” will be on Lasers.
With a release supposedly slated in early 2010, “What U Want” serves as the acting first single or taste of what we can expect from Lasers. With simple, laid back beats and equally chill and relaxing supporting vocals, we find ourselves nodding our heads along to a Lupe Fiasco heavily channelling his contemporary, Kid Cudi. If Lupe Fiasco was to perpetuate a trend in hip-hop, choosing the Kid Cudi/808 & Heartbreaks path is most refreshing. I can admit I’m growing weary of the Young Money set. You can listen to “What U Want” below:
There has been no release date announced for Lasers yet. Lupe Fiasco blames his major record label.

boring. and he sounds just like kid cudi, i wish he would go back to falling asleep in paris, wake up in tokyo…
It’s kind of weird and usual that he’s emulating Kid Cudi, when The Cool and Food & Liquor are obviously superior to Kid Cudi’s album. But I like that he’s trying new things. I wouldn’t want him to sound exactly the same as he did a couple years ago.
This is fire Lupe killed it. I like that he changed it up. I know there will be other tracks on Lasers where he kills it, old Lupe style so I’m not worried.
no reason to doubt lupe. His mixtape was huge. With tracks like “What U Want” and “The National Anthem” i think Lupe is going to release the best rap record of 2010.
Everyone needs to stop predicting or hinting at their own retirement.
Ish is old.
Lupe has already publicly said he won’t be retiring. When he was in Philly (I saw him) doing The People Speak, he said his label won’t let him, and he sounded like he has come to terms with it. So no, Lasers is not the end of Lupe Fiasco.
Also, you should mention that this is an unfinished version of the song.
Clark Temple likes this.
