M.I.A. took to Twitter on Sunday and posted a two minute clip featuring a brand new track called “Come Walk With Me.” The video comes with the inscription “MATANGI 2012,” which seems to suggest that M.I.A.’s new album will be called Matangi (the artist’s birth name). We wouldn’t be surprised if the final product is stylized as /\/\ /\ ✝ /\ /\/ ௹ or something. /s
Where excellent early single “Bad Girls” seemed to bridge M.I.A.’s poppier sensibility with the visceral immediacy of her first two albums, the first 100 seconds of “Come Walk With Me” recalls 2010’s MAYA, what with its liberal use of autotune and its psychotic and kinetic (yet somewhat aimless) nature. It’s clear, however, that this is far from a finished product, but this and “Bad Girls” are our only clues to Matangi.
