We recently heard about the forthcoming Buddy Holly tribute record, Rave On Buddy Holly, which will include contributions from The Black Keys, She & Him, My Morning Jacket, Julian Cassablancas, Cee Lo Green, and indie rock divinities Modest Mouse. We have now received Modest Mouse’s instalment, a cover of “That’ll Be The Day,” which is the title track from Holly’s third full length, the last album released before his tragic death in 1959.
Isaac Brock and co successfully transform the song, into a Modest Mouse tune, removing the 50s rock n roll aesthetic and making it a quirky, folk ballad, strengthened by violin strings and Brock’s signature vocal stylings.
