Not two days into 2013 and Azealia Banks is starting the year off right with a new jam called “BBD,” produced by Apple Juice Kid and Sup Doodle, that effortlessly amalgamates hip-hop and dance trends (a little trap-y, a little rave-y, Azealia said on twitter; not to mention the song’s title appears to reference Bell Biv Devoe) with her own already-classic rapid-fire, sassy wordplay. As per usual she makes it all sound easy: “I’m just really out here livin’,” she sounds like she’s shrugging, ultra-laconic and ultra-cool. Let’s hope 2013’s the year we actually get to hear her long-postponed debut record, Broke With Expensive Taste.
