The A-side of young wunderkind King Krule’s new 7″ for Rinse, “Rock Bottom,” is one of our favorite tracks of the year, so whatever was going to show up on the other half of that vinyl had to be damn good – and it’s “Octopus,” and it is; good enough, in fact, to be designated an AA-side instead of relegated to B. It keeps in the same scatterbrained, adventurous vibe as “Rock Bottom,” skipping from here to there, over gentle, windswept synth and guitar swells, rollicking saxophone, and skittering, jumpy drum machine. It’s part Wild West, part Ibiza, part tropical, but mostly something all its own. Check it out.
